Aussie captain Cahill's dream drop-kick

Sydney (AFP) - Brief stories from the Asian Cup on Friday:

Dad's what I'm talking about

Tim Cahill's accuracy in front of goal is well known, but the Socceroos talisman surpassed himself with a pin-point drop-kick to his son in the stands after Australia's win against Kuwait. Cahill's 10-year-old son Shae was watching from the second tier following the 4-1 victory in Melbourne last week. The former Everton star, who scored a sensational goal against the Netherlands at the World Cup last year, saw his son, picked up a ball and kicked it straight into his arms. As well as a cracking kick, it wasn't a bad catch from Cahill junior either. The incident was caught on camera and Cahill posted it on his Twitter account.

A-League 'escape route'

Former Socceroos goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer believes Australia's A-League has become an easy option for players fearful of making the leap to Europe. "All of us who played at the 2006 World Cup went through the hard times in Europe," Schwarzer told FourFourTwo magazine. "It is not happening any more. We have very few guys getting their head down and digging in in Europe. The A-League is a way out: it is an escape route for some players. You see it now more than ever ?- guys come overseas, they last six months and then they turn around and return to the A-League."

Hit and run

A teenager is facing dangerous driving charges after allegedly hitting and injuring a woman while doing burn-outs in his car to celebrate Iraq's Asian Cup win over Jordan. The 18-year-old turned himself in after an incident at a Sydney carpark on Monday, after Iraq's 1-0 defeat of their neighbours and Group D rivals in Brisbane. The 60-year-old woman suffered a fractured pelvis when she was struck while returning to her car.
