Football West: Stirling set up Bayswater final

Stirling Lions will have revenge on their mind when they take on Bayswater City in Saturday’s All Flags Grand Final at E&D Litis Stadium.

Stirling moved in next week's All Flags Top Five Series grand final against Bayswater after a 3-1 win against Sorrento in Sunday preliminary final at Macedonia Park.

Rory Grant put the home side ahead after three minutes when he found space in the area and crossed for Perth Glory recruit Dean Evans to fire home from six yards.

The Lions doubled their advantage six minutes later. Miki Vujacic played a defence splitting through ball to Phil Arnold, the striker went one-on-one with Sorrento keeper Curtis Aspden, before firing home into the roof of the net.

Sorrento gave themselves a lifeline on 37 minutes when a long clearance from Aspden was misjudged by the Stirling defence and Gavin Knight nipped in to fire home clinically past Aleks Vrteski.

But seven minutes into the second half Stirling added the third to seal the game. Arnold was given far too much space in the middle of the park and he unleashed an unstoppable shot from 25 yards.

“We started well today, and did on Sorrento what Bayswater did to us last week,” Stirling coach Gary Williams said.

“All the goals were well taken today which is pleasing, topped off by a stunning strike from Phil late on which was the icing on the cake.

“We now start planning for the grand final against Bayswater next week, which will be another tough game, but the lads will be up for it.”
