Perth Glory will be forced to switch their opening A-League game from nib Stadium to Adelaide because the pitch will not be ready.
The State Government had the pitch ripped up for renewal after the Western Force's last Super Rugby game on July 13.
Glory's scheduled season opener is against Adelaide United on October 13, but ground operator Allia Venue Management will not regain control of nib Stadium until October 14 and is unable to schedule events at the East Perth venue before 9am that day.
Glory have the option to move the game to Patersons Stadium, where the club played two games last season.
But club owner Tony Sage said such a move would cost him an extra $60,000 for a one-off fixture.
Another option is to swap home games with Adelaide, leaving Glory with two away games to start the season and a home fixture against the Reds on November 16, which has been tentatively booked at nib Stadium.
A Department of Sport and Recreation spokesman said Glory were notified of the hand-over date and ground availability in January and again in May.
The spokesman said the pitch revamp had already been brought forward four weeks and could not be sped up further.
A furious Sage said Glory had not been given any reason the handover date could not be brought forward a day to let the club play the opener at home.
"The Government, through no explanation to anybody, is not going to hand over the ground. It's a farce," Sage said.
"We now have to switch our (opening) game with Adelaide and play two away games to start the season instead of playing home and away.
"The whole club is up in arms.
"It will damage our chances."
Venues West chairman Graham Partridge yesterday confirmed nib Stadium would not be available for October 13.
Allia chief executive Peter Bauchop said the venue manager's hands were tied.
"They've scheduled the pitch development works to be still continuing on that day (October 13)," Bauchop said.·Teen sensation Daniel De Silva scored a late stunner as Glory beat the State team 3-1 at Inglewood's Intiga Stadium last night.
