Oldham banned their players from swapping shirts with Everton's stars after their dramatic 2-2 draw in the FA Cup fifth round as the cash-strapped League One club try to cut costs.

Oldham's owners were concerned the players would give away their shirts to their Everton counterparts in the traditional post-match ritual, therefore forcing the minnows to buy a new set of kit.

And with money tight at the Lancashire club, Oldham's players were greeted with a stern message posted to the dressing room wall at Boundary Park on Saturday.

"Please be advised that due to a severe shortage of first team home shirts, players must not give away their kit following the conclusion of the Everton match," the message from caretaker manager Tony Philliskirk and chief executive Neil Joy read.

Oldham's players appeared to obey the instruction in the aftermath of the stoppage-time equaliser from Matt Smith that earned the Latics a money-spinning replay at Goodison Park.

And with that unexpected windfall, Oldham's players, who eliminated Liverpool in the previous round, might even be allowed to swap shirts after the replay.
