Perth Glory coach Ian Ferguson dismissed his side's good recent record against Adelaide United as ancient history ahead of tomorrow's clash at Hindmarsh Stadium.

Glory have won four and drawn one of their past five meetings with the Reds, including two wins from three games in South Australia.

But Ferguson said Glory knew better than to rely on history.

"We've got a good record but it means nothing in the A-League," Ferguson said.

"As you've seen before, teams can turn you over and Adelaide are a good side at this present moment.

"We've got to be on our toes but we've got a good team here and I've got belief that these boys will take us through and get us into the finals."

Ferguson included two young prospects in his 16-man squad to Adelaide this morning as he looks to inject youth into the team in the second half of the season.

The former Rangers midfielder said Brandon O'Neill and Jesse Makarounas were in line to play roles off the bench as he contemplated changes to the side that drew with Sydney FC last week.

"We need to start using the squad now," Ferguson said.

"We've played a lot of games over the festive period and we need to start making some changes and adding the younger ones in.

"It's going to be nice to get them some game time, whether it be 30 minutes, 15 minutes or whatever.

"It's always good experience for them to come in and play and build them up and get them used to that environment.

"That's what we've got to do now. The last 12 games or so are going to be about bringing the younger ones through."

Ferguson allayed fears over star striker Shane Smeltz and captain Jacob Burns, who both spent time away from the main group at training this week but have been cleared to play tomorrow.

Adelaide will take a punt on Kenyan teenager Awer Mabil to cover the losses of Fabio Ferreira (groin) and Marcelo Carrusca (adductor).

They join defender Nigel Boogard (hamstring) on the sidelines.

"Awer has earned his chance from his performances in the youth team and he gives us a lot of speed and an X-factor," Reds coach John Kosmina said.

"The youth team is there for occasions like this where you have got a number of different injuries.
