Western Force and Wallabies prop Salesi Ma’afu is leaving for English Premiership club Northampton at the end of the season.

Ma’afu joined the Force from the Brumbies on a two-year deal in 2012 but his season was cut short after he broke his arm in training.

Saints director of rugby Jim Mallinder said on his club website that he had been impressed by the 29-year-old Ma’afu.

“He has built up a good reputation as one of the top props in Australia and has been a big part of the Wallabies’ recent improvements in the set piece,” he said.

“Salesi will add a great deal to our group of props and the squad in general going into next season, and we’re looking forward to welcoming him to Franklin’s Gardens later in the year.”
