Wallabies captain James Horwill will have surgery on his ruptured right hamstring in Sydney tomorrow.

He suffered the injury during last month’s Super Rugby match between the Queensland Reds and the Brumbies, and the decision to operate was made after it did not improve using non surgical rehabilitation methods.

It is hoped Horwill may recover in time for the Wallabies Northern Hemisphere tour in November but it is more likely that he will not be ready to return until next year’s Super Rugby competition.
