Owner Craig Thompson is keen to aim Princess Hallowell at the $250,000 Magic Millions Perth 2YO Classic after the filly’s exciting win at Ascot today.

Princess Hallowell ($1.45 favourite) was sent straight to the lead by jockey Paul Harvey and never looked in danger in her brilliant four-length win in the Westspeed Plate (1000m).

Punters took the short odds about the Oratorio filly after her strong debut when she ran second, beaten a head, to the race-hardened Busimiss at Ascot last month.

Princess Hallowell cost Thompson $110,000 at last year’s MM Perth sale.

The rich MM Perth 2YO Classic (1100m) is run at Ascot on February 16.

Thompson and trainer Trevor Andrews hope Princess Hallowell can also give them a shot at a second consecutive win in the State’s biggest two-year-old race, the $500,000 Karrakatta Plate (1200m), on April 6.

They teamed up to win the Group 2 feature with Luke’s Luck last year.

“She went into her first race off a 500m trial and pulled up quite gross so she was always going to improve with the run,” Andrews said.

“It was a pretty professional effort and a soft win on the line.

“She looks to be a filly with a future.”

Purist ($7) ran a solid second on debut to Princess Hallowell.

Andrews scored a double when former Lloyd Williams-owned galloper, Accrual, won the ozbet.com.au Handicap (1600m) by one-and-a-quarter lengths.

Trainer Steve Wolfe also scored a double with classy sprinter Tiger Pete (Crown Perth Sprint) and Nazotic (Westspeed Handicap).

Tiger Pete, heavily backed from $3.10 to $2.70, looked in big trouble when he missed the start and was last on the turn.

But the Shovhog four-year-old showed his blistering turn of foot to motor home down the outside to beat Settle Strada ($3.40) by half a length.

“He’s got a turn of foot and is a very good horse,” Wolfe said.

“That turn of foot is what separates good horses from average horses.”

Nazotic, who started a rank outsider at $27.70 on tote, gave French jockey Jerome Lermyte his first WA city winner when he led all the way to beat $3.20 favourite Karratha Crossing by two lengths.
