Top jockey Peter Hall was taken to Royal Perth Hospital yesterday following a heavy fall from Mighty Rossa in the Skootas 30th Birthday Handicap (1800m) and looks certain to miss riding Lords Ransom in Tuesday's GRD Perth Cup (2400m).
Hall who was riding on his first day back at Ascot after a lengthy riding suspension on the home turn in the race which was won by Last Curtain.
Stewards reported Hall suffered possible broken ribs, a punctrued lung and was complaining of back pain.
Hall won the Bunbury and Pinjarra cups last autumn on Lords Ransom and only picked up the ride on the nine-year-old last Thursday.
Lords Ransom won the 2010 Perth Cup when he was trained by Adam Durrant. The son of Melbourne Cup winner Jeune is one of four runners for trainer Grant Williams running in the $500,000 Perth Cup.
Lords Ransom is a $51 chance on Player behind the $3.80 favourite Chester Road.
Hall won the 2006 Perth Cup on Black Tom for trainer Frank Maynard.
Meanwhile, WA's champion jockey Paul Harvey bagged a hat-trick on what was a very hot day.
Harvey opened his winning account on the red-hot favourite War Prince in the Westspeed Handicap (1000m) giving trainer Simon Miller a change of luck.
Miller's best filly Miss Buz was seriously injured in the Lee-Steere Classic (1400m) recently due to being galloped on at the 400m.
Vets were able to repair the three-year-old severed hind tendon, but she is no longer a racing proprosition.
Harvey then turned the tables on stable-mate Busimiss on Danny Rip in the Westspeed Plate (1100m), before ending his day at the track booting home Rack 'Em Up in the New Year's Day Handicap (1200m) to give favourite backers a perfect score.Harvey's three wins from three rides pushed him past arch rival William Pike (29) with 30.5 city wins to now lead the jockeys' premiership.
