Perth QC Ron Davies has been appointed to conduct a wide-ranging review of WA harness racing stewards' operations in the wake of corruption allegations against Sydney pacing integrity officials.
Harness Racing NSW has stood down two stewards in addition to several trainers and reinsmen since police and pacing authorities launched investigations into malpractice.
"There are no specific allegations or complaints against WA pacing stewards," Davies said yesterday. "My appointment is to review the operations of WA harness racing stewards and recommend where improvements can be made to practices.
"Stewards were informed I would be inviting submissions on WA pacing integrity operations from a broad range of people.
"The review begins in two weeks and I'll be based at Perth Racing's head office near Ascot racecourse."
Davies is the most senior Queen's Counsel currently practising in WA and he also has extensive experience in pacing.
"I'm a past owner, trainer and breeder of standardbreds," he said. "I was a WA Trotting Association committeeman until 25 years ago."

The Chelsey Harding-trained mare stormed home for Morgan Woodley who scored his third win in the cup in six years.
"I'd never driven the mare before tonight," Woodley said. "She was travelling like a winner."
