Shimaguni on notice for showdown

ROBERT EDWARDS, The West Australian January 19, 2012, 7:56 am

Sydney's Chairman's Cup winner Shimaguni heads into Saturday night's debut clash against WA trailblazer Miata under a cloud in the 715m free-to-all at Cannington.

Victorian trainer Andrea Dailly will use Saturday's 12 race-card to prepare her four WA-based greyhounds for Saturday week's heats of the SKY Racing $210,000 Perth Cup (530m) and $140,000 Galaxy (715m) series.

Dailly's brother-in-law and kennel foreman George Dailly will arrive in Perth today from their Anakie base with Galaxy contenders Shimaguni (race three), Adelle Bale (race five) and cup challengers Heston Bale (race one) and Lektra Jay (race four).

Shimaguni will have her first start for Dailly after she was transferred from trainer Robert Renebach when stewards ordered her to trial for failing to chase properly at her last start, when beating Lektra Jay in a heat of the Sale Cup (650m) on December 18.

"Miata is an absolute flyer and we will have to try our heart," George Dailly said. "Shimaguni has a helluva lot of ability and she passed her 550m trial easily against three average dogs."

Miata overcame a tardy start before an explosive 10-length win in 41.73sec. in last Saturday's Distance Gift Final (715m).

The Paul Stuart-trained bitch holds all three city distance records (530m, 642m and 715m), and the 647m Mandurah record.

Adelle Bale capped her Galaxy campaign with a third to Granduer in the Victoria Cup Final (699m) at Cranbourne last Sunday.

"Last Sunday, she came out terrible and she does not have the greatest draw (seven) at 642m," Dailly said.

Heston Bale is precocious and ran third in the Group 1 Silver Chief Final (525m) at the Meadows three starts ago, on January 1.

Lektra Jay is a son of Elektra, who won the 2008 Galaxy Final for trainer Keith Harding.
