An uncharacteristic lapse in concentration cost world champion Lauren Mitchell a sweep of medals at the Australian gymnastics championships at Challenge Stadium yesterday.

After an emphatic performance in the all-around competition on Friday, the world floor champion entered the individual apparatus challenge as favourite for four more gold medals.

The 19-year-old delivered on her first apparatus, her vault with a career best 14.800.

With near-perfect execution and the highest difficulty in the field, by a significant margin, she was well clear of silver medallist, Queensland's Sophie Budack, who scored 14.075.

Disaster struck on her next apparatus, a recently upgraded uneven bars routine, where only seconds into her work-out she failed to complete her most difficult element, costing her a medal.

The 2006 Commonwealth Games champion, Chloe Sims of Queensland, took advantage, taking out gold with 14.275 ahead of Victorian Mary-Anne Monckton, 13.875, and Mitchell fourth with 12.750.

Mitchell had a fall on the beam, her pet event, but with difficulty stacked into the exercise she was still able to take out gold scoring 14.575 ahead of Victorian Ashleigh Brennan 14.525. Mitchell was awarded a best ever 15.550 on the beam on Friday.

The championship ended on the floor where Mitchell again showed her strong all-round skills, taking gold even though one of her tumbling passes continued to cause her woes because of an ankle injury.

Mitchell received 14.00 ahead of Brennan and Monckton who shared silver with 13.350.

In the rhythmic competition, Queenslander Danielle Prince produced strong performances with the ball and clubs to beat WA favourite Janine Murray for the all-around title with a total of 95.925 ahead of Murray (93.625) and Jaelle Cohen (84.625).

The Australian squad for the world championships will be named this week with Mitchell being a certainty. Injured Emily Little and Georgia Simpson of WA are also in with a strong chance.
