Hollywood heavyweight Russell Crowe jetted into Perth from Sydney this morning.

An airport security contingent and several Australian Federal Police officers guarded the arrivals lounge as Crowe strolled through, picking up a coffee and collecting his own bags before jumping into a valet car.

The Robin Hood star is in town to watch NRL team the South Sydney Rabbitohs take on the Melbourne Storm at ME Bank Stadium tomorrow night.

He is a co-owner of the team and despite Rabbitohs' chief executive Shane Richardson calling it a stupid plan, had members of a chess society teach the game to the league players to help improve their on-field thinking.

The players now reportedly organise their own tournaments and travel with magnetic chess boards on plane trips.
