Perth Scorchers captain Adam Voges hopes Shaun Marsh smashes a century for Australia in tomorrow's one-day international against England - even if it rules him out this weekend's Big Bash League semifinal.

Marsh (79) produced one of the Scorchers' best individual batting performances of the season in last night's loss to Melbourne Stars, never missing a beat in his return from national duties.

However his stay with the Scorchers could be a short one, with the 31-year-old recalled to the ODI squad after a host of injuries.

As it stands, the plan is to release Marsh to the Scorchers following tomorrow's fixture as the defending BBL champions prepare for what is likely to be a home semifinal against the Stars on Sunday.

Only a blow-out Sydney Sixers victory over Sydney Thunder tonight could change the make-up of the Scorchers' final.

Voges said the team would love to have Marsh available, but would also love to see him continue to showcase his talent in national colours.

"I thought he played beautifully, he hardly miss-hit a ball the whole innings last night," he said.

"He's in brilliant form. I hope he makes a heap of runs tomorrow and if that means we don't get him for the semifinal well then so be it.

"I think he showed how class a player he is in Twenty20 cricket and it was nice to have him back."

Voges said he was disappointed at the way the Scorchers finished yesterday's loss to the Stars, but was confident it was a minor lapse in bowling and fielding rather than any bigger issue.

He said the result wouldn't play on the minds of his team if the two teams were to meet again on Sunday.

"I thought for three quarters of the game we actually played very, very good cricket," he said.

"We just couldn't quite close it out and to be fair to Pete Handscomb (103 not out) he played an exceptional innings.

"Barring our last six overs with the ball I actually through we were really, really good.

"While that was disappointing last night I still think, particularly in front of a home crowd, it should hopefully be a different game."
