Cummins swaps Scorchers for Thunder

Injury-plagued Australia quick Pat Cummins will not play for the Perth Scorchers in this season's Big Bash League and instead will turn out for his home town Sydney Thunder.

The 21-year-old, who had two years with Perth and helped Justin Langer's side win last season's competition, played his Grade cricket for the Penrith club in Sydney, before bursting onto the domestic scene with some superb performances for New South Wales.

He played his one and only Test so far against South Africa in Johannesburg in November 2011, when his six second-innings wickets helped earn him the man of the match award.

But since then he has struggled with a catalogue of injuries, particularly with his back.

“It will be fun to come back to the area that I grew up in and play in front of the cricket fans of western Sydney," he said.

"I am excited with the way the Thunder has recruited and with the overall vision of the club and I’m looking forward to contributing to the team in BBL|04. It is an exciting time for the Thunder as there were promising signs last season that showed that they are close to getting the results that the team is capable of.”
