Perth Scorchers coach Justin Langer says his senior batsmen need to start contributing more runs if the team is to continue flourishing without top-order star Shaun Marsh.

The Scorchers are set to be without Marsh and Nathan Coulter-Nile, man of the match in last night's six-run win over Hobart Hurricanes, for the remainder of the Big Bash after both were named in the national one-day squad for the upcoming series against England.

Ryan Duffield and Hilton Cartwright travelled with the team today and will be named in the 13-man squad to face the Sydney Sixers on Friday.

The likely return of injured quick Pat Cummins next week should offset the loss of Coulter-Nile, but Langer said Marsh would prove much harder to replace in a squad lacking batting depth.

"Losing Shaun is a huge loss with his experience and a few of our guys are going to have to step up," he said.

"We keep talking about one of our senior players playing a substantial innings.

"We've done it once so far this tournament with Simon Katich so it's something we need to get better at."

Katich's 75 in the Scorchers' win over Sydney Thunder last week was the highest individual score by a Scorchers player this season.

All-rounder Mitch Marsh is the only other Scorchers player to post a half-century.

One player who Langer expects to stand up is young batsman Ashton Turner, who posted a personal best 32no against the Hurricanes and has scored the fourth-most runs for the side this season.

"I'm so impressed with him," Langer said.

"Ashton Turner does an AFL midfielder time-trial with his running. He's so fit and we saw last night how effective that could be.

"He's a good all-round cricketer, his fielding has been brilliant and the most pleasing thing about him has been his incredible improvement.

"We saw him in the Champions League he was a bit rabbit in the headlights, there were a few things he had to address and he's done that, his improvement has been fantastic.

"He's a huge prospect for the future."

The Scorchers are sitting second on the BBL ladder after last night's win at the WACA Ground but are yet to win away from home this season.

Langer said he was confident that if his side maintained their focus they could get the job done this week and set themselves up nicely for the back-end of the tournament.

"It's great to win at the WACA but we need to win this game," he said.

"We have been hit with Shaun and Nathan Coulter-Nile and perhaps Alfonso Thomas (back), so again we have to keep fighting and hopefully this is a game we can win in Sydney."
