Warriors pile on the runs at WACA

Victoria had some brief joy to open day two but Western Australia have continued to pile on the runs in the Sheffield Shield match at the WACA Ground.

After resuming at 3-315 on Saturday, the Warriors went to lunch on day two at 5-443 to continue to make Victoria pay for electing to bowl first.

Shaun Marsh is not out 69 and Sam Whiteman unbeaten on 41.

Victorian stand-in captain Rob Quiney won the toss and sent WA in to bat on the opening day, Marcus North (145) and Cameron Bancroft (69) put on a 208-run opening stand to steer WA to a fruitful first day.

The Bushrangers started well early on the second day when John Hastings bowled a good spell to pick up the wickets of WA captain Adam Voges (69) and Mitch Marsh (four), but the Warriors steadied heading into the lunch break.

Whiteman was given a life to continue Victoria’s poor fielding in the match.

David Hussey, returning to the side after being dropped from the side that beat Tasmania last week, put down a sitter when the wicket-keeper batsman was on five.

Dan Christian was the unlucky bowler and he has the figures of 0-53 from 21 overs.

Hastings has been the best of the Victorian bowlers on an extremely flat and slow wicket with figures of 2-52 from 20 overs.

Jake Haberfield (3-97) has been impressive although expensive in his debut for his new state, but the former South Australia quick has cost his team at least three boundaries in the field.

Leg-spinner Cameron White (0-9) also looked the best of the tweakers compared to Fawad Ahmed (0-59) and Glenn Maxwell (0-70).
