WA basketball has been handed a voice at the national table with the appointment of Perth Wildcats chief executive Nick Marvin to the NBL Commission.
Marvin will serve a two-year term alongside fellow newcomers, Australian basketball legend Andrew Gaze and Wollongong Hawks chairman Peter Bahlmann.
"We are separated from the rest of the country by distance and time and sometimes that can hurt us," Marvin said. "Having a voice on the national body will certainly help."
Marvin hopes to assist the NBL in ushering in a new era of success as the League looks to consolidate recent growth and expand with the addition of new teams in Brisbane and Melbourne.
"Of critical importance is profitability of the NBL clubs," Marvin said.
"To achieve this we need to work closer with our broadcast partner - Network Ten - as well as our sponsors and fans with marketing our brand across the country."
NBL Commission chairman Justin Milne said the three new members of the Commission would be a huge asset to the league. "They bring a wealth of knowledge in a diverse range of business areas which will help strengthen the Commission," Milne said.
"They also all have a great passion for our sport and our league and we can't wait to get down to work with them ahead of the 2011-12 NBL season."
Marvin, Gaze and Bahlmann replace Basketball Australia board member Bruce Spangler, New Zealand Breakers chief executive Richard Clarke and former Wollongong Hawks chief executive Wayne Morris on the Commission.
The NBL Commission comprises seven members, including two from the board of Basketball Australia and four appointed by NBL club owners.
