Former Sydney Kings star Julian Khazzouh could be on his way back to the NBL this season after having his contract with Prokom Gdynia terminated by the Polish club.

Khazzouh was named in the All-NBL first team last season, averaging 16.4 points and 10.8 rebounds a game for the Kings before opting to try his luck overseas.

But Prokom coach Kestutis Kemzura told the club’s official website Khazzouh had not adapted well to the European style of game.

“We decided with management that we needed a different type of player in the front court,” Kemzura said.

“That’s why we decided to part ways with Khazzouh. (The) player understood our decision and it was evident that (the) European style of basketball doesn’t suit him very well.”

The NBL player points system, designed to create competitive balance by spreading talent amongst the eight teams, rates Khazzouh as a maximum 10-point player.

No NBL club currently has enough points in the cap to include Khazzouh, meaning they would have to cut players to make room for the big man, who would also command a hefty chunk of the $1 million salary cap.
