WNBL TV coverage still on cards

Basketball Australia chief executive Kristina Keneally has rubbished reports that WNBL television coverage would be cut dramatically next season.

Fairfax media today reported ABC would broadcast one-hour W-League soccer and WNBL highlights packages on ABC1 during their respective 2012-13 seasons.

ABC had previously broadcast weekly live games or full match replays from both competitions.

In a statement on the BA website, Keneally claimed the sport's governing body was still in negotiations with the host broadcaster.

"We anticipate there are several more weeks of discussion to be had," Keneally said.

"The reality is the media landscape is changing. Digital broadcasting, internet and free-to-air are all part of that changing media landscape, and are feeding into these discussions.

"We are very optimistic given that the ABC has been such a strong supporter of women's basketball for the past 30 years."

Fairfax reported live broadcasts of WNBL and W-League games would be available on the ABC's website.
