Demons delist Newton and Meesen from primary list

AAP, The West Australian November 10, 2009, 9:47 am

Melbourne have delisted key forward Michael Newton and ruckman John Meesen, but pledged to re-draft them as rookies if there is no interest from any other AFL clubs.

Newton and Meesen both have one year remaining on their current contracts.

They are expected to nominate for the November 26 national draft and the pre-season draft the following month.

The Demons also announced on Wednesday that Clint Bartram, Kyle Cheney and Tom McNamara had agreed to contract extensions.

"We are keen to give these three young players the chance to show us that they can establish an AFL career with the Melbourne football club - the opportunity is their's for the taking," said Melbourne's general manager of list management Tim Harrington.

Midfielder Cameron Bruce has been placed on Melbourne's veterans list.
