Peter Matera, a part of the club's legendary centreline with Dean Kemp and fellow wingman Mainwaring, has agreed to pull on the boots and will be joined by 1990 best and fairest winner Chris Lewis.

The OWLS - Older, Wiser, Larger, Slower - will be under the guidance of inaugural Eagles coach Ron Alexander. They will take on an All-Star team, with former Fremantle coach Chris Connolly calling the shots, in a twilight match at Subiaco Oval on Saturday, October 10.

In last year's inaugural Mainy tribute match, West Coast beat Fremantle by 19 points. It attracted a crowd of more than 32,000 and raised $150,000 for Telethon.

The defining moment was the sight of Mainwaring's seven-year-old son Zac kicking a goal.

This year's game starts at 5.30pm.

Matera, the 1992 Norm Smith medallist in West Coast's first grand final win, and Lewis join a host of high-profile Eagles to commit to the OWLS line-up.

Players who have already confirmed their availability include premiership stars Guy McKenna, Glen Jakovich, Brett Heady, Peter Wilson, Michael Brennan, Tony Evans and Michael Braun, Brownlow medallist Ross Glendinning, Coleman medallist Scott Cummings, ruckmen Laurie Keene and Phil Scott, Adrian Barich and Michael O'Connell.

Confirmed starters for Connolly's Commandoes are former Fremantle and Adelaide high flyer Tony Modra, rugged ex-North Melbourne defender Mick Martyn, former Essendon star Terry Daniher, Brownlow medallist Robert Dipierdomenico and Footscray legend Doug Hawkins.

More big-name signings are expected to be announced in the lead-up to the game.

Evans, one of the event co-ordinators, said the overwhelming response from past greats showed the esteem in which Mainwaring was still held.

"I think he was hugely respected as a player and as a personality and as a person, for the way he conducted himself and consequently the players are queueing up to play," Evans said.
