Bulk hasn't slowed West Coast

Josh Kennedy says the extra muscle put on by the majority of West Coast's players for next season will not slow them down.

The Eagles vice-captain said he was feeling good heading into the Christmas break after starting a pre-season surgery free for one of the few times in his career.

And he said those at West Coast that had noticeably bulked up since the end of last season, including the likes of Dom Sheed, Brad Sheppard and Sharrod Wellingham, had not lost any of their pace.

Coach Adam Simpson has been open about wanting a bigger, stronger team to match it with the league's best midfields.

"A few guys have come back a lot bigger and stronger, which has been fantastic," Kennedy said.

"The group is still running the same times they were in previous years. A lot of the boys are able to hold the weight and run the same times, which has been a positive.

"It hasn't been too hot just yet, but I think it's going to start ramping up, so hopefully we can hold it (the weight over summer)."

Kennedy, who spent time interacting with children during the club's Christmas visit to Princess Margaret Hospital yesterday, said he was aiming to improve his consistency in attack next season to help West Coast's cause.

He booted a career-high 61 majors in 2014, but 26 of those came in three matches against Gold Coast and Greater Western Sydney.

The spearhead's best haul against a side that featured in finals was three - in the round-21 loss to Essendon.

"It'd be good to spread it out throughout the year rather than just having one or two games where you're doing OK," Kennedy said.

"That's one thing that I'll just keep working on and hopefully get better at."

Kennedy also revealed he had voted for Shannon Hurn to be West Coast's new captain despite himself being a leadership contender.

"His knowledge of the game is above a lot of us and the way he communicates with the boys is fantastic," Kennedy said.

"He's going to be a fantastic leader."
