Fremantle and the City of Cockburn have released a shortlist of builders for construction of the $106 million community, administration and training facility that will become the Dockers' new headquarters from 2017.

Construction on the project, a partnership with the City of Cockburn, the Dockers, Curtin University and the Federal and State governments, is due to start early next year.

Fremantle hope to shift their administration and training to Cockburn by the end of 2016.

The four companies invited to tender for the project are Broad Construction Services (WA) Pty Ltd, Brookfield Multiplex Constructions Pty Ltd, Perkins Decmil Joint Venture and Pindan Contracting Pty Ltd.

Mayor Logan Howlett said it was important that Cockburn ratepayers got the best value for money for what would be their local sporting club wherever they lived.

"The City's tender process is designed to ensure all capable tenderers are given an equal chance to present their proposal," he said.

"I'm looking forward to turning the first sod with the Fremantle Football Club to kick-start this much-needed community facility."

Dockers general manager of strategic projects Brad Paatsch said the applications were impressive.

"The City of Cockburn and the club were both impressed by the quality of the expressions of interest submitted by the companies involved in the EOI process," Paatsch said.

"We now look forward to working with the City over the coming months to appoint one of the selected builders as the building contractor, and to commencing construction on this exciting project in early 2015."

The facility, described as Cockburn's community and sports hub of the future, is expected to boast a world-class aquatic centre, two training ovals for the Dockers, club and community gymnasium facilities, Fremantle's new administration headquarters and a range of other community facilities.

It is also expected to provide on-site training for Curtin University's sports science and physiotherapy students.

The project has drawn funding from the State and Federal governments.

The Dockers will also raise $10 million to go towards the building cost.

West Coast recently committed to a 99-year lease with the Town of Victoria Park and are hoping to draw government funding for a $60 million administration and training base at Lathlain Park, which would also include new facilities for the Perth Football Club.
