Unhappy Cat lined by West Coast

West Coast will keep an eye on developments with disgruntled Geelong midfielder Allen Christensen, with the club keen on pursuing the 2011 premiership player if he is open to a move to Perth.

Christensen, 23, produced the first genuine shock of the trade period yesterday when he expressed a desire to leave the Cats.

Eagles football manager Craig Vozzo contacted Geelong after the club confirmed that Christensen wanted to play elsewhere for "non-football reasons".

He said West Coast were interested in the 65-game midfielder on a day where Eagles chief executive Trevor Nisbett separately confirmed that other clubs were "ahead" of them in the race for nominated target and fellow Cat Travis Varcoe.

Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley is due to meet 26-year- old Varcoe while on holiday in Bali.

The meeting has raised the possibility of a three-way deal that would involve the dual Geelong premiership player joining the Magpies, Heritier Lumumba being traded to Melbourne and Mitch Clark heading to the Cats.

Vozzo said he had held preliminary discussions with Geelong about the possibility of trading for Christensen.

"We've also contacted his (Christensen's) management and had some discussions with them as well," Vozzo said.

"We're trying to work out that very question (on whether he might come to Perth).

"They're going to come back to us with some information regarding it and then we take the next step as appropriate from there. I think it's been quite sudden for Geelong.

"He's probably slightly different in that he's had some terrific midfield performances, so he's a genuine mid as opposed to playing as a high half-forward."

West Coast have openly discussed the need to add pace and experience to their midfield.

Out-of-contract WA midfielder Kane Lucas is also on the trade table at Carlton, but Vozzo said the Eagles had not met him.
