Eagles chase Cat Travis Varcoe
Geelong speedster Travis Varcoe is West Coast's prime target for the trade period, but the Eagles face opposition from other clubs as he considers his future.
The 26-year-old has played 138 games for the Cats and won two premierships since making his debut in 2007.
West Coast believe he could provide the pace they need.
The Eagles were active last year when they recruited Elliot Yeo from Brisbane and Xavier Ellis from Hawthorn.
West Coast football operations general manager Craig Vozzo said Varcoe was their primary target this year.
"We have an interest in him," Vozzo said. "We've spoken to him and his management and we've spoken to Geelong.
"Travis has to make a decision that it is an option that he'd like to explore because he's a contracted player at Geelong. His ability to run and his flexibility of role we think would help us. He's a player who can play as a high half- forward, a wing and potentially as a half-back."
The Eagles currently have picks 11 and 32, and will secure Alec Waterman as a father-son selection with their final pick in the national draft next month.
Varcoe played 23 games this year and is contracted for the 2015 season, but the Cats are open to the prospect of trading him if the deal is suitable.
"We've had quite a bit of interest, but there's no guarantee he's going to leave our place at this stage," Geelong football manager Neil Balme said.
"I think he'd be happy to consider it. There's a lot of things to be taken into account longer term.
"I think he'd be as happy to stay as go. We'll see what happens.
"He's been very, very good for us. He's had a terrific year."
While the clubs around them all pursue players, Fremantle football operations manager Chris Bond said the Dockers were looking forward to having their highest draft pick since 2009. Fremantle have the 12th pick but would like to find a way to get higher up in the draft.
"We've been very strong on the draft in the last seven or eight years," Bond said. "The draft is very important to us and if we can get a better position in the draft, that's really important to the future of the club as well."
The Dockers have confirmed they will sign 196cm Gaelic footballer Sean Hurley, 22, as an international rookie. He will join pre-season training next month.
