De Boer weighs up Dockers pay cut

Forward Max Duffy has signed a one-year contract extension to remain at Fremantle next season, but leadership group member Matt de Boer is yet to commit for 2015 despite being offered a new deal.

Duffy, 21, made his AFL debut this season, kicking two classy goals in the two-point loss to Geelong in round 20.

De Boer's future remains clouded, with the 24-year-old understood to be weighing up a fresh one-year contract offer on reduced terms.

The hard-working midfielder fell out of favour as the season progressed, playing only five games after round nine.

He was a late inclusion for Saturday night's semifinal against Port Adelaide, replacing the injured Alex Silvagni.

De Boer started as the substitute in the 22-point defeat and finished with 13 disposals and four tackles in less than a half.

His lack of senior appearances this season was a marked change to the first two years under Ross Lyon, when he missed one match.

He was one of only four Dockers, alongside Danyle Pearce, Tendai Mzungu and Ryan Crowley, to play every game last year as the club marched to a maiden grand final appearance.

He was also ranked No.1 in the league for tackles in the forward half during the 2013 season.

De Boer was forced to play five matches for Peel Thunder after returning from a mid-season knee injury - a significant fall from grace for a player who was twice voted Fremantle's best club man and has spent the past four seasons in the leadership group.

Fremantle face decisions on the future of rookie-listed pair Sam Menegola and Craig Moller.

Menegola, 22, is in his third season on the rookie list and must either be upgraded or de-listed. He is yet to crack a debut. Moller has spent the past two seasons as a rookie after being recruited through the NSW AFL scholarship program.

Fremantle already have to make a minimum of two list changes, with Kepler Bradley and Scott Gumbleton both announcing their retirements.

Veteran Luke McPharlin is expected to add to that list by calling time on his 238-game career.

Meanwhile, Lyon last night confirmed he had met Melbourne free agent James Frawley. But he refused to say whether the 2010 All-Australian was after a seven-year deal to move to Fremantle.
