Cox set to miss Suns clash

Dean Cox is almost certain to miss Sunday's clash against Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium after failing to make a training appearance at Patersons Stadium.

The 33-year-old, who played his final match in Perth in Sunday's 66-point win over Melbourne, has strung together the past three matches to take his career tally to 290 AFL games.

But the six-times All-Australian is not expected to line up against the Suns after not training with the main group at this morning's open session.

Ruck counterpart Nic Naitanui, who missed the Demons win with a sore Achilles, trained fully and appears set to be brought into the team at Cox's expense.

Cox was due to meet Eagles coach Adam Simpson today to discuss selection.

He said immediately after the Melbourne game that the contest would probably have been his final match for West Coast, if not for the possibility of playing finals.

Asked then if he would play against Gold Coast, Cox said: "I'm not sure. That's something we'll speak about."

Scott Selwood (ankle) and Elliot Yeo (hand) both trained strongly to push their case at the selection table.

Simpson said on Channel Seven last night that he expected Selwood to return for his first game since round 12.

Xavier Ellis joined in skills work with the main group with his right shoulder heavily strapped. He has missed the club's past two matches with an AC joint injury and would need to pass a fitness test on Thursday to be available.
