Eagles hit with more injuries

West Coast's mounting injury list shows no signs of abating, with Brad Sheppard succumbing to a foot injury that could sideline him for the rest of the season.

The 23-year-old broke down before yesterday's open training session with what is believed to be a "hot spot" in a foot.

The injury is expected to sideline the rebounding defender for at least one week, although West Coast will consider adopting a cautious approach and possibly rule him out for the rest of the year.

Sheppard was a late withdrawal to face Brisbane at the Gabba earlier this month with the same injury.

He returned against Richmond last Friday night and had 12 disposals and five rebound 50s.

The injury comes less than a week after the 2009 No.7 draft pick signed a two-year contract extension, tying him to West Coast until the end of 2016.

He is the latest Eagle to join a growing injury list, with Sharrod Wellingham expected to miss the remainder of the season after straining the lateral meniscus in his right knee playing for East Perth.

Injuries to on-baller Luke Shuey and retiring ruckman Dean Cox are not as serious, but leave the pair in doubt for Saturday's clash with Adelaide at Adelaide Oval.

Six-times All-Australian Cox took part in training at Patersons Stadium yesterday, but will be handled with care after being crudely concussed by Richmond big man Ty Vickery.

Shuey, who injured his right ankle against the Tigers, appeared briefly on the training track.

He didn't look to be in any discomfort, but was held back from all running and ball work.

Jack Darling appeared to be struggling with soreness in his legs and back, training for less than 10 minutes, with Ash Smith (thigh) and Sam Butler (calf) also on light duties.
