Harris has 'no time for coaching'
West Perth premiership coach Darren Harris has ruled himself out of filling the vacant positions at the helm of WAFL clubs Perth and South Fremantle for next season.
The Simpson medallist and former Carlton development coach said he would not be applying for either of the two available senior coaching positions at a time when a dual West Coast premiership player is weighing up putting his name in the ring.
It is believed former Peel and Subiaco coach Chris Waterman is considering applying for the Perth job.
The Demons and Bulldogs are fighting to secure the best available coach on the market, with the clubs having to replace Damien McMahon and Paul Hasleby respectively for 2015.
Waterman, 45, stood down as Subiaco coach at the end of 2012 after three seasons in charge, having taken the Lions from sixth in 2010 to a grand final the following year. He also coached the Thunder from 2006 to 2009.
Harris, who 12 months ago took charge of Perth operations for sports development business Leading Teams, said he had spoken with the Demons and South Fremantle last week.
"I just have to give it a really red-hot go with Leading Teams and I just don't have any time other than to commit to that," Harris said.
_The Weekend West _understands Mark Harvey and Tony Micale are unlikely to be appointed to either role.
Perth's deadline for applications closes on Thursday, while the cut-off date at South Fremantle is the following day.
Bulldogs chief executive Stuart Kemp said the club wanted its new coach in place before the end of the season.
"That's obviously to take a look at the list and maybe sit in with (outgoing coach) Paul," Kemp said. "It would be fantastic to have him in the box for a game before the season finishes."
