Claremont stun Swans in thriller

Claremont have kicked six final-term goals to stun Swan Districts by three points at the Showground this afternoon.

Jack Bradshaw was the hero with a stunning cameo up forward, kicking a career-best seven goals and two of the final three for the match as the Tigers stormed home to win 14.17 (97) to 14.10 (94).

The hosts trailed by 27 points at the final change and appeared spent after Swans had kicked six goals to two to blow the game open in the third quarter.

But Claremont came with a vengeance in the final stanza, with Bradshaw snapping his sixth major to put them back in front before converting from a contested mark to ice the match with about three minutes to go.

Brenden Abbott also starred with five goals in his best game of the season as the Tigers claimed their sixth win of the season.

Swans had a late chance to win after Ricky Cary's second goal led to one final forward push, but they were unable to score anything other than a rushed behind to fail to pinch the result.

The defeat means they slump to third behind Subiaco and now face a dogfight to earn an all-important top-two finish with five matches left to play.

Tim Geappen booted four majors for the losers, while Tony Notte played a strong role in defence.

Claremont were able to wrest back control of the match around the stoppages on the back of Mark Seaby's dominance in the ruck, with Luke Blackwell, Jake Murphy and Ryan Neates all prolific around the stoppages.

Swans had been far more efficient when they went forward for the first three quarters, with Aaron Elari, Ryan Davis and Aidan Anderson all hitting the scoreboard with multiple goals.

Davis was a constant threat in Swans forward line early.

All four of his scoring shots during the first quarter were generated from hard leads resulting in marks, with a return of 2.2 giving the visitors the early break.

At the other end Abbott broke free from the close attention of Tallan Ames to kick two goals for Claremont for the quarter.

The Tigers midfield was keeping them in the game and the advantage became a domination early in the second quarter as Seaby continued the rout in the hit-outs department.

Bradshaw booted the first three goals of the term and four overall for the quarter as the contest became a shootout at either end.

Swans were able to claw their way back from a 13-point deficit midway through the quarter to regain a narrow three-point lead at the main break.

Geappen stood up in the third term, with his three goals for the quarter including one from a superb contested mark hurting Claremont.

But the hosts responded in the final stanza to post their most memorable win of the season.
