West Coast have decided Adam Selwood couldn't be risked this weekend and have left him out of the team to take on Collingwood at the MCG on Saturday.
Selwood has been in hospital for treatment on an infected arm and didn't take his place on the plane that took the Eagles to Melbourne today. He was forced to spend much of last Friday on a drip.
The 28-year-old has been a consistent performer in defence and through the midfield this season and his absence against the in-form Magpies will be a significant blow.
Defender Will Schofield also had to be overlook because of a hamstring injury.
The Eagles recalled Mitch Brown as Schofield's replacement while Beau Waters returns following suspension.
However, West Coast took 24 players to Melbourne, including defender Sam Butler, who was close to returning from a hamstring injury in last Thursday's clash with Carlton.
West Coast rewarded Koby Stevens for his strong WAFL form with inclusion in the squad but he was and Butler were named as emergencies, alongside Lewis Stevenson.
There could be pressure on Pat McGinnity and Tom Swift to keep their spots.
Collingwood will be without Alan Didak (adductor), Ben Sinclair (ankle) and Tome Young.
Senior trio Heath Shaw, Alan Toovey and Ben Reid return.Sponsored links
