Georgia Ramsay is the first South West chef to represent Australia at the Work Skills International culinary competition in Germany.
The 19-year-old apprentice qualified for the overseas event after she won a silver medal at the World Skills national titles held in Sydney two weeks ago.
Voyager Estate head chef Nigel Harvey said Ms Ramsay was a pleasure to train and her team selection was “well deserved as she trained hard, is very passionate and very professional.”
“If something doesn’t go right, Georgia can improvise, think on her feet and make it happen,” he said.
Ms Ramsay said she spent days and nights preparing for the competition, but it was the adrenaline rush that pushed her to perform.
“Being surrounded by judges was super intense and it’s not like work where you are surrounded by workmates who can help you out,” she said.Ms Ramsay qualified as a chef today and will continue cooking at Voyager until the contest in Leipzig next July.
