Single Fin carves a niche

The legend of the Single Fin theory was the talk of Yallingup at the surf event earlier this month.

Surfers gathered early at the Yallingup main break on November 17 in anticipation of riding a highline across an Indian Ocean crystal curl.

Conditions were perfect with sunny clear skies, a groomed offshore wind and a consistent 3ft to 4ft swell pushing on to the reef.

Forty surfers assembled and were straight out of the gates early.

There were soul arch bottom turns, layback snaps and drawn out full rail carves.

Surfers, friends, families and old legends congregated throughout the day to check out the impressive display of 1970s boards and to soak up the atmosphere.

Sammy Hanson could not be quelled and he flew down a big right-hander, fast, graceful and full of power and the trophy was his.
