The Boyup Brook Cricket Club did their bit for charity last weekend, hosting a Pink Stumps Day against Preston for breast cancer awareness.
The event was one of 100 similar fundraisers held across the country in the name of the McGrath Foundation, the charity set up by Australian cricketer Glenn McGrath and wife Jane in 2002.
Boyup Brook Cricket Club president Ty Bancroft said they were invited by the charity to hold the event and were happy to contribute to the cause.
‘‘It’s not often you’ll get a day out in the sun playing cricket for a good cause. We did the same last year and it went pretty good, so we were just hoping to build on that and raise a bit more money,’’ Mr Bancroft said.
Around 50 people turned up to watch their game and donate for the cause and Mr Bancroft said they raised around $600.
‘‘All the fines from the game, for disorderly conduct and that, they went in the tin and people dug deep as well, which was nice to see.
‘‘There was a bit of a cook-up afterwards and the Preston guys hung around for a few beers and we just made a day of it.’’'The West Australian' is a trademark of West Australian Newspapers Limited 2012.
