Margaret River Sergeant Paul Daly says he hopes a thief’s conscience comes into play, prompting a return of tools stolen from the site of a car crash at Rosa Brook Road this week.
Sgt Daly said tools worth $15,000 were stolen from a wrecked car after a crash at 12.30am on Monday.
“A middle-aged man, he’s a mechanic, had a five-year-old daughter in the car and hit a small kangaroo which took out the steering column and he crashed into trees with a big impact, ” he said.
“Everything was OK, except he cut his chin on the steering wheel, and he got his girl, walked to a nearby farm and a gentleman drove them in to the hospital.”
Sgt Daly said when police transported the man back to the crash site at about 2am they discovered his tools, which were thrown from the vehicle, had been stolen.
He said the toolbox was red, covered in stickers and had the initial EWS inscribed on the outside.
Sgt Daly encouraged anyone with information to contact local police on 9757 2222.'The West Australian' is a trademark of West Australian Newspapers Limited 2013.
