A strong cold front is is expected to bring heavy showers, thunderstorms and squally conditions to the metropolitan area and the south of the State today, prompting an alert from the Fire and Emergency Services Authority (FESA).
The Weather Bureau advises the front is approaching from the south-west and expectedto hit Cape Leeuwin about 9am and extending throughout the area by 5pm.
"Squalls may cause dangerous winds in excess of 125km/h that could cause significant damage or destruction to homes or property in localised areas," FESA warns. "If you live betweenGeraldton to Dalwallinu to Bremer Bayyou need to get ready now for the bad weather coming this morning."
This includes residents around Jurien Bay, Perth, York, Mandurah, Narrogin, Bunbury, Busselton, Bridgetown, Katanning and Albany."This type of weather only occurs a few times a year and could cause major damage to homes and make travel dangerous," FESA says.
