Say no to scammers

Residents have been warned of scammers who pretend to be representing insurance agencies and demand cash for clean-up and repair services.

The Insurance Council of Australia chief executive officer Rob Whelan said being aware of the potential for insurance scams can protect people from becoming a storm victim twice.

‘‘Policy holders who are unexpectedly approached by contractors or assessors offering repair services, insisting they were sent by an insurance company, should immediately ask for identification, and contact their insurer for verification if doubts remain,’’ he said.
