The State Government’s planned Ngari Capes Marine Park proposal is yet to be finalised with agreement from the Minister for Fisheries still being sought, according to Environment Minister Bill Marmion.
Fisheries Minister Norman Moore told the Times the finalisation of the plan had been complicated by the Commonwealth Government’s proposed marine park.
“The Department of Fisheries is working with the Department of Environment and Conservation and liaising with the relevant commonwealth agencies to complete the Capes to Capes Marine Park in 2012,” he said.
Mr Moore said the State Government was seeking to get the right balance between achieving the best conservation outcomes and limiting the impact on the recreational and commercial sectors.'The West Australian' is a trademark of West Australian Newspapers Limited 2012.
