Twenty events celebrating the South West lifestyle will take place over the March long weekend as part of the revamped Aqua Spectacular festival.
In its third year since recommencing after a break, the weekend will feature events such as the Barrett Bunbury Swim Thru, the 59th Annual Koombana Bay Sailing Club Regatta and Dragon Boats Paddling Under the Stars.
There will also be opportunities to try volleyball, scuba diving, fishing and stand-up paddling.
Coordinator David Kerr said the Aqua Spectacular aimed to celebrate the quality of life and access to waterways in Bunbury.
“A significant aspect of it is to put another event on the local calendar that attracts tourists to the area and helps fill accommodation and delivers more people to cafes, restaurants and local industry, ” he said.
“The whole strategy is to build it up to its former glory – we’re just trying to do bite-sized chunks as we go down that path.”
The festival is coordinated by the Rotary Club of Bunbury-Leschenault and funded by the City of Bunbury and Eventscorp.
Mr Kerr said the event was an opportunity for water-based clubs to encourage new members.
Aqua Spectacular began as the Dragon Boat Festival of Bunbury in 1990 and after several reincarnations took on its current form in 2011.David Kerr and Tiffany Goodall who are co-ordinating the Aqua Spectacular in Bunbury pictured here at Koombanna Beach.
