The Bunbury Repertory Club will hold its 33rd South West One Act Drama Festival at the New Lyric Theatre in Bunbury.
The festival, held on September 15, will include theatre groups from Perth and the South West.
Five one-act plays will be performed this year by four groups — Arena Arts and Entertainment from Perth will perform two plays and Donnybrook Theatre Troupe, Bunbury Musical Comedy Group and the Bunbury Repertory Club will each perform one play.
Guidelines for the one-act plays are fairly broad, encompassing any theatre production involving drama, comedy or sattire as long as they are not a musical.
Each play runs between 25 and 45 minutes.
Robyn McCarron will adjudicate this year’s festival.
Prizes will be awarded for best male, female and supporting actor.
Ms McCarron taught literature, drama and communication at the Edith Cowan University SouthWest campus for 20 years and is the judge for the West Australian Premier’s Award for Literature.
Perth-based group Rag and Bone Theatre won last year’s festival.
Coordinator Rod Kroon, from the Bunbury Repertory Club, said they were always looking for new members to join.
‘‘It’s a friendly competition but with a lot of work put in from each group,’’ he said.
‘‘The Bunbury Repertory Club started serious preparation at the beginning of June and are currently rehearsing three times per week ahead of the performance.’’Tickets are available on the door at the New Lyric Theatre for $25. Performances take place from 1pm-6pm.
