Bathtubs at Fonty's worth the wet

If you are planning on staying dry at Back to Fonty’s this weekend you’ll be missing out on half the fun.

The ever-popular Bathtub Derby will see punters paired up and given a bathtub and a paddle for a race across Fonty’s Pool which is sure to make a splash.

It is just one of the poolside events that the Mates 500 Relay will be overseeing on the day.

‘‘Not only do we have the Bathtub Derby, we’ve also got the Bombie Competition and the Rubber Duck Raffle, for which we’re asking the public to come up with ideas for novel ways to select the winning duck from the pool,’’ Mates 500 runner Paul Omodei said.

BackTo Fonty’s is a fantastic community event and as such the six mates will given the opportunity to promote their March fundraiser, when they will be running 1000kmin aid of the Regional Men’s Health Initiative.

‘‘Regional Men’s Health will be at Fonty’s doing pit stops, offering the chance for guys to have their blood pressure, heart rate and waist measurements taken to seehow healthy they are,’’ Paul added.

Fonty’s Pool and Caravan Park owner Jeremy Beissel said the Bathtub Derby had been a popular staple of Back to Fonty’s for several years and over the years it had grown and developed into a highly competitive event, while remaining a bit tongue in cheek at the same time.

‘‘Back to Fonty’s is all about bringing people together and having fun and we’re very pleased to have the Mates 500 team on board,’’ he said.
