A photographic exhibition documenting the effects of climate change in South Africa is turning heads in Nannup.

Land Is Life by photographer Matthew Willman depicts the stories of farming communities from the Western Cape of South Africa whose lives are being impacted by changing rainfall patterns and long periods of drought.

The exhibition is being held in conjunction with Oxfam Australia at the Community Resource Centre and the Garage until Sunday.

Oxfam Australia campaigner Paddy Cullen said he hoped it would serve as a wake-up call for Australia to do more to tackle climate change and contribute to solutions to alleviate poverty.

‘‘As one of the highest per person polluters in the world, Australia has a responsibility to urgently reduce its domestic emissions and provide financial support to help developing countries tackle climate change,’’ Mr Cullen said.

‘‘This exhibition puts a human face on the fact that one in seven people on the planet go hungry.

‘‘By putting more effort into helping small-scale producers, especially women, and by tackling climate change, there is real hope we can end the cycle of poverty and famine which no-one should have to face.’’
