Rockingham march on

A neat link-up play between David Clark and Max Snelson helped Rockingham City Football Club win 1 to 0 against Gwelup Croatia in the preliminary round of the Coolridge Cup at Lark Hill on Saturday.

Rockingham City welcomed Gwelup Croatia to Lark Hill for the preliminary round of the Coolridge Cup on Saturday and posted a 1-0 win.

The hosts were looking to get 2014 off to a winning start after an indifferent 2013 but it was the visitors who started brightly.

However, Rockingham City slowly played themselves into the game.

The first real chance fell to Rockingham after great work down the left by Roy Hissey, with his cross played across the face of goal just out of reach of Blade Atkinson.

The home side started to dominate and took the lead, with neat link-up play on the edge of the box between David Clark and Max Snelson resulting in Snelson crossing to the back post, where Atkinson headed home from close range.

It could have been a two-goal lead within minutes as striker Alex Grayson beat his marker with a neat turn on the edge of the box, only to shoot straight at the Gwelup keeper.

Rockingham progress to the next round.
