Break out the boardies to help surf club

Secret Harbour Surf Lifesaving Club members Jacob McIvor, 11, Hannah McIvor, 7, Manna Runnion, 14, Attila Grayson, 9, and Kali Grayson, 10, are ready for Boardies Day.

Boardies will be all the rage come Friday as Rockingham workplaces, schools and residents ditch their usual attire and slip on their shorts for Boardies Day.

Secret Harbour Surf Lifesaving Club is calling on Rockingham residents to be involved to help raise much-needed money for the club.

Club sponsorship director Carolyn Wilson said Boardies Day was all about celebrating the end of summer, our beautiful beaches and the hard work of volunteer lifesavers over the summer.

“It is all about having a bit of fun and celebrating the end of another summer season,” she said.

Mrs Wilson said money raised by the community went straight back into the club and was vital to keeping lifesavers equipped with rescue gear.

“The money goes towards surf lifesaver training, first-aid supplies and surf safety community education,” she said.

Club member Jacob McIvor, 11, said he enjoyed wearing his boardies because they were “funky” and “comfortable”.

He said he hoped everyone would jump on board and support the club.
