Christmas came early for dancers from the Beverley Margaret School of Dance in Rockingham, when they hopped on the train last Saturday to dance their way through the streets of Perth in the Channel 7 Christmas Pageant.
About 55 students aged between eight and 26 years took part in the annual event, which principal Beverley Heckingbottom said is the highlight of the dancers’ year.
“The dancers did the same routine that we did in the Disneyland Parade in Hong Kong in 2011 so they’ve been preparing for over a year,” she said.
“All the dancers looked forward to it, especially since it went back to night time.
“We’ve been doing the pageant since the 1990s.”
Ms Heckingbottom said although there were strict conditions in getting the dancers involved, it was worth the effort.
“It’s quite a big undertaking,” she said.“Channel 7 has strict guidelines about what needs to be done to have dancers in the parade, we had to go to security meetings and there are adults with the dancers during the parade and who meet them afterwards. There are a lot of procedures but the kids get so excited.”
