Baldivis could be home to the State’s only cable waterski park, which could put the suburb on the map as a water-playground tourist destination.
Rockingham City Council received a development application for a cable waterskiing facility to be built on Mundijong Road, trading as Perth Wake Park.
If approved, it would join Bonney’s Water Ski Park as the second water park in the area.
Masterplan WA, appointed by proponents S and B Hurrey, said the park would be built on an 11ha site and feature three lakes — the main lake 340m long and up to 120m wide — a kiosk and change rooms, service and maintenance infrastructure, administration building and carpark.
Tourism Rockingham president Stacey Graham welcomed the news of the potential tourism investment.
‘‘We feel a development such as the cable waterpark will complement the existing waterski park, which is mainly for speed boats, and will give visitors the opportunity to utilise both,’’ she said.
Bonney’s Water Ski Park manager Ross Burrow said the company, which has been operating for 27 years, welcomed a second water park and believed it would bring more visitors to Baldivis.
‘‘It will be good for the park, it’s not very well-known at the moment,’’ he said.
‘‘We are totally boats, they are totally cable.’’Public comment on the proposal closes on December 3.
