Cricket: Baynton bailed up on Pink Stumps Day

The match between Baynton and Dampier Taverners last Saturday in the West Pilbara Cricket Association was about more than just victory.

The Baynton team organised a fundraising event as part of Pink Stumps Day to help raise money for the McGrath Foundation.

The foundation is raising funds to place McGrath Breast Care Nurses in communities throughout Australia and increase breast awareness in young Australian women.

In the match pink was the predominant colour with the Baynton team donning brightly coloured pink hats to support the cause. The wicket-keeper was also easy to spot in his bright pink pads.

Sadly for Baynton, despite their new attire they were no match for Dampier, losing by seven wickets.

Baynton batted out their 20 overs but never really flourished or had any fluency managing only 95 runs for the loss of six wickets.

It was a good all round performance from the Dampier bowlers with an even spread of wicket takers.

Dampier reached Baynton’s total in 14 overs with Jake Trewin top-scoring with 32 runs.

In one of the matches of round 11, Rec Club lost to Nickol by only seven runs.

For Rec Club, Luke Breman made a half-century but his team fell just short in the final over.
