Fish Tales

Prawns, prawns and more prawns were the highlight of many people’s fishing last week.

Picture by Nichola Franssen: Luke Franssen caught this fantastic cod while fishing off Dampier.

There have been bucket-loads of prawns caught at all the river mouths, which has not only provided a great feed, but also fired up the fish.

People have been catching mangrove jacks both on the shore and aboard vessels, with many saying the fish were gorging themselves on the abundant prawns.

For the shore-based angler there were catches of jacks from the Causeway just past Wickham.

Barramundi have been quiet because of the influx of fresh water into the river systems but with hot weather predicted for this week, the fish should soon begin to come on the bite a as the water temperature increases.

Threadfin salmon are making up for the lack of barramundi action with a number of people reporting good catches.
