Newman's Mia Mia House in the Desert has been judged the State’s best standard accommodation at the Perth Airport WA Tourism Awards.

The category was open to hotels, motels, cabins, pub and self cater accommodation, with the focus on facilities and service that enhances the tourism experience.

Mia Mia, a boutique hotel owned by Auzcorp, was awarded the gold medal over Perth’s Goodearth Hotel.

Opened in 2007, Mia Mia features 48 ensuite rooms, a restaurant and a 50sqm VIP apartment.

Mia Mia manager Sharon King said although the hotel was in the middle of the desert, it still delivered high-level service and facilities.

“We treat guests as if they were in an up-market hotel in the middle of Perth,” she said.

“Most people find it very surprising, and feel as though they have entered a little oasis when they walk through the doors.”

Tourism Council chief executive Evan Hall said the awards highlighted the extraordinary WA tourism experiences.

Eco Beach Broome was awarded best unique accommodation.
